Graceful Ageing Pathway-
introduction
A Pathway for Understanding Ageing
Introduction
I have been privileged to walk alongside thousands of people in later life, offering guidance and care at moments of deep need. Yet I am equally aware that many more elders and families continue to struggle, often unseen and unsupported. This reality strengthens my resolve to remain present for them and to work towards a world that is truly elder-friendly.
The call to support ageing, more specifically, to enable ageing gracefully has never been more urgent. As traditional family systems begin to weaken, the responsibility to uphold dignity and care grows heavier. My expertise as a social gerontologist, grounded in hands-on practice, must not remain confined to local contexts but extend to a broader, global canvas. In this mission, digital platforms and social media serve as powerful bridges, connecting elders and families across borders and opening new avenues for advocacy and support.
It is within this vision that we propose Graceful Ageing Pathways, a framework designed to guide how individuals, families, communities, and societies can collectively foster dignity, resilience, and grace in later life. This work is a collaborative effort with my fellow Social Gerontologist, Roshan Jacob. Together, we practice Social Gerontology in Bangalore, India, under the brand name advantAGE seniors.
Drawing from our experience as elder care practitioners and social gerontologists, we have developed a life-course ageing pathway that views ageing as a progression over time, marking key decision points, transitions, and vulnerabilities. This pathway weaves together social, functional, care, family, and support dimensions and will be shared through this website created for elders and their families. It is not biological in focus, nor limited to disease or academic theory; rather, it is grounded in lived experience, and designed to offer practical guidance for ageing with dignity, resilience, and grace.
Disclaimer: The Graceful Ageing Pathway has been developed to provide practical guidance for elders and families navigating the complexities of ageing. It maps ageing as a progression over time, identifying decision points, transitions, and vulnerabilities while integrating social, functional, care, family, and support dimensions.
This pathway is not intended as a biological model, a disease-specific framework, or an academic theory. It is practice-based, grounded in lived experience, and designed to serve as a resource for fostering dignity, resilience, and grace in later life.
